Apple has updated HomePod with a new Sound Recognition feature that lets the device detect smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
When opening the Home app, users will receive the following prompt:
New Safety & Security Features
Sound Recognition detects smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds and allows home members to check in during critical events.
If you don't receive it, try restarting your HomePod.
Tap Continue to turn on the feature, allowing HomePod to send you notifications when it recognizes smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds and allow home members to check in wherever they are.
Sound Recognition and the ability to check in work on every HomePod in your home. Turning this on also enables it for any HomePod added to the home and for all members of the home. You can change this later in settings.
