I have a GSM iPhone 4 locked to Softbank Japan that is unlocked with a Gevey Turbo SIM on baseband 04.10.01 and iOS 5.0.1. I want to upgrade to iOS 6 for app compatibility but need to maintain my jailbreak and SIM unlock. I have SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1.3 and iOS 5.x.x, but not for 6.1.2. Is it possible to upgrade to iOS 6 while preserving my baseband and jailbreak?

To upgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 6 without losing your Gevey SIM unlock, you must preserve your current baseband (04.10.01). This is done by creating a custom firmware file (IPSW) using tools like RedSn0w or Sn0wbreeze. These tools allow you to stitch your saved SHSH blobs into the firmware and select an option to prevent the baseband from being updated. Since you have SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1.3, you can use those to move to that version. However, please note that for the iPhone 4 on iOS 6.1.3, the jailbreak is tethered, meaning you will need a computer to reboot the device unless you later apply a fix like p0sixspwn from Cydia. Do not use a standard iTunes restore as it will update your baseband and permanently break your current Gevey SIM compatibility.

The SIM unlock depends on your baseband version rather than the iOS version itself. A standard iOS upgrade will automatically update your baseband, which would make your phone ineligible for the Gevey SIM unlock. To upgrade while preserving your baseband, you must use a utility like RedSn0w or Sn0wbreeze to create a custom IPSW. Since Apple is no longer signing iOS 6.1.2, you must use your saved SHSH blobs to restore to that specific version. If you only have blobs for iOS 6.1.3, you can upgrade to that version, but the jailbreak will be tethered. Avoid upgrading until you have prepared a custom firmware to ensure your unlock remains functional.
