I managed to unlock my iPhone 4 baseband 4.11.08 using the SAM method on iOS 5.0.1 and saved my unlocking ticket using Redsn0w. Is it safe to update to iOS 6, and will my unlocking ticket still work on the new firmware?

Updating to iOS 6 while trying to maintain a SAM unlock is risky. SAM activation tickets are generally firmware-specific. While tools like Redsn0w can backup and restore these tickets, many users reported that tickets created on iOS 5 did not work after updating to iOS 6 because Apple changed the way activation tokens were handled. If you decide to try, you must use a custom IPSW to prevent your baseband from updating. If your baseband updates, the SAM ticket will definitely fail. Additionally, the jailbreak for iOS 6 on the iPhone 4 was tethered for a significant period. For most users, it is recommended to stay on iOS 5.0.1 to ensure the unlock remains functional.
