I recently found a tutorial here on unlocking the iPhone 4: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253. My iPhone is running iOS 4.2.1 with baseband 03.10.01. The article says that I must be on specific basebands like 01.59.00. I did not find my version on the unlock wizard. Is it possible to downgrade to 01.59.00 or upgrade to 06.15.00 to make this work?

Software unlocking for the iPhone 4 using UltraSn0w is only possible if you have baseband 01.59.00. Unfortunately, there is no way to downgrade the baseband on an iPhone 4 once it has been updated. For baseband 03.10.01, the software-only method will not work. Historically, users with this baseband used hardware solutions like a Gevey SIM interposer. The 06.15.00 iPad baseband is not compatible with the iPhone 4 and should only be used for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Your best option now is to request a factory unlock from the original carrier.

Software unlocking for the iPhone 4 is only possible on baseband 01.59.00. It is not possible to downgrade the baseband on an iPhone 4. For baseband 03.10.01, a hardware-based solution like a Gevey SIM interposer was required. Note that the 06.15.00 iPad baseband is not compatible with the iPhone 4 hardware and should not be attempted. Today, the best option is usually a factory unlock through your carrier.
