Hi i have a jailbroken (jailbreakme) iphone 4 on ios 4.0 (8a293) baseband 01.59.00 I would like to upgrade to any version of ios 5 as I am unable to use many apps that require at least ios 5 after reading many tutorials I am unsure whether it is possible to do this obviously I would like an untethered jailbreak. I am confused about unsigned ipsws and whether it will still work I am concerned I will not be able to restore all my jailbroken apps any help or a pointer to the relevant tutorials would be greatly appreciated many thanks in advance Marc

So what you want to do is create a custom IPSW that 1) prevents any baseband upgrade 2) is stiched to that 5.1.1 blob (otherwise the restore will error out - apple isn't signing 511). Once you create that IPSW, get into DFU mode, restore with redsn0w, then jailbreak, then run ultrasn0w. Even if you don't want the unlock, ultrasn0w is required.

You need to first verify which SHSH blobs you have saved. You can do this with redsn0w or tinyumbrella. You can follow this guide for that.

One you know what blobs you have, reply back.
