the visual voicemail is linked with your phones data plan so you have to have a correct data plan provisioned on your phone line in order for the visual voicemail to work as well. also you have to make sure that your wireless carrier has to correct imei number in their systems which is found by going to settings, general, about and going to the imei and confirming the imei number with your carrier, im a rep for at&t cust serv. and the imei number being incorrect or not having visual voicemail provisioned on the account will cause the visual voicemail to not function.
I just bought an unlocked 3G Iphone, and it already have bee configured. It shows me this message : "Cannot conect to Voicemail" "Call your service provider for assistance" , and I cannot reset it and customized it. Any idea with this issue? I n the Voicemail Tap there is the little red circle with apparently 10 messages.. I just want them erased and try to use it and reconfigure it.
Thanks

Just thought I would clear up some miss information.
In the United States of America AT&T is the only carrier that offers Visual Voicemail.
In Canada Rogers Wireless & Fido both Support and Offer Visual Voicemail.
If you live in Canada and use Fido or Rogers Wireless, and you have a 1st Generation iPhone (Grey Market) you CAN subscribe to the Visual Voicemail package, it is NOT exclusive to the 3G. The 6GB Data Plan offered by Fido & Rogers for $30 is Exclusive to the 3G.
Other Carriers that officially sell the iPhone over seas may also offer the Visual Voicemail. Ask them your provider if they support it.
You can also get the 3G iPhone without a data plan, but just launching Safari or YouTube etc will cost you about $14 (According to Fido).
I'm unlocked and on Rogers but when I press the Voicemail button my iPhone just calls the Rogers voicemail. How do I enable Visual Voicemail (I think the opposite of Jonathan's suggestion below).
Anthony. That is due to the lack of Visual Voicemail supported by your carrier. To fix the voicemail button open keypad and type: *5005*86*yourcarriernumber#
