G-Map can show you the way wherever you go, even with no Wi-Fi connection or in dead zones up in the mountains, out on the ocean, or even in an airplane. G-Map is a stand-alone electronic map. So once it's downloaded, you can freely search your location and get directions without an internet connection, anytime, anywhere, even when you're on the move.
G-Map's massive data will help you find any desired location, and can also provide detailed information of the searched location such as address and phone number.
It's also possible to enter your own personal notes or make changes to the information of the location searched, so you can even use your G-Map as a travel notebook. So now when you travel, you can leave the paper maps behind. You'll have everything you need once you download the G-Map onto the iPhone or iPod Touch you're holding in your hand.

This has got to be the worst app that has come to the iPhone,
if it requires manual set up than it is not worth it...

You "can" you it on 2g (1st gen iPhone) the only thing it needs to just get a query from the wifi or gprs network not even 3g network, about 1~2kb. You need a jailbroken phone, with ssh, python, and install the program OfflineMaps from Cydia (it will install python and anything else nessesery) then you must create the map with a tool (google for "google maps on iphone") and copy the map on your /private/var/mobile/Media/Maps/ and chmod the folder to 777 and the files too. I recomend when using the program to link the map not copy it cause it takes too long and it's just a feature not needed! I use it everyday on a 2g (1st gen) iPhone! have ph4n

Just do it your way.. download the maps from google with "the" tool, repack'em for iphone and use the [jb]Offline Maps.app and link the map to your Maps.app thats it! No wifi to gps no gprs.. The map in your hands, you only need gprs for example to say "i'm here and i need to go there" it only charges you with the text query and nothing more! ;)

Hope they can include Manila, Philippines in the Map. We have a significant amount of iPhone users here.
