iPhone 5S to Feature Sapphire Crystal Touch Home Button With Fingerprint Scanner?

Posted May 14, 2013 at 3:55pm by iClarified
A new report from TechNews predicts that the iPhone 5S will feature a sapphire crystal capacitive touch home button with integrated fingerprint scanner.

CultofMac relays the report from the Taiwanese site.

They insist Apple will employ a capacitive touch home button for the first time with the iPhone 5S, eliminating one of the most unreliable components in an iOS device (the physical home button has a tendency to fail after long periods of use). Not only will it be a capacitive touch button, but it’ll also incorporate a fingerprint sensor, the sources claim.

Sapphire crystal is highly transparent and extraordinarily scratch-resistant making it a good choice to cover the fingerprint scanner. Apple currently uses sapphire crystal to cover the lens of the iPhone's camera to prevent any scratches from ruining your photos.

A fingerprint scanner has been predicted for the iPhone 5S repeatedly based on Apple's acquisition of AuthenTec.

TechNews says that the device will arrive in August or September, alongside a plastic low-cost iPhone.

So glad I opted for the HTC One. I can't imagine going back to an Apple phone. The openness of Linux is something Apple can match, but will never be willing to do.

Ah, you're referring to "The Egg and The Doughnut" position, from the Kama Sutra. Very interesting choice. However, please note that it usually involves the LEFT testicle, and severe injury may result from using the right one. You're welcome!

Probably more horse dung but hopefully it will be a little wider as well and we can have 5 columns too. Who knows? Maybe apple might surprise us this time and break away from heir usual routine. Perhaps they will bring hardware change on top of a faster processor. I hope they allow for some customization. This pale blue and grey are so boring now. I still love my 4S though.

4S ftw until I get a wider iPhone. But IMO a FP scanner seems more like an ip6 rather than a 5s.

"S" versions of Iphone models have never had major hardware differences compared to their predecessors throughout history(3g-3gs/4g-4gs)....Same thing will happen this time.
You are WRONG
You are WRONG - May 14, 2013 at 6:36pm
You are completely wrong. The iPhone 3 got a major update in speed when the 3GS came out. Why do you think 3GS can still be upgraded to latest iOS while the 3 cannot? Non-S phones mostly just have a new design and little else. From 3GS to 4, only the shape and screen changed. They are both almost as fast. Now when you compare the 4, to the 4S, the 4S is so much faster and has a way better camera. Between the 4S and the 5? Just one row of apps and shape changed. Cameras are equal... so you are WRONG. The "S" is always the best one to buy. I always ignore the new releases and buy the S version. Not this time, though, as Apple have innovated too little since Jobs died. The iPhone 5 has been the worst update and has made me lose faith in Apple. I was waiting for the 5S, but the HTC One is more beautiful and is the fastest phone right now. Also, unlike Samsung crap, HTC One actually is well built and uses premium materials.

The "S" model iPhones have software difference not hardware.

I ain't a troll or a moron and I won't get in the process of trash talking to you... My opinion is that "S" models have minor hardware updates....different cameras and processors is a small hardware change compared to a sapphire crystal touch home button with a fingerprint scanner.....

3GS got a compass hardware piece the 3g didn' as well as ram and processor upgrades and camera upgrade. 4S got camera, ram, processor upgrades. They all get new iOS upgrades. The only time there was a difference in software was the 4S from the 4.
