The iPhone Dev-Team jailbreak has been released for the iPhone 3GS, according to a BigBoss report.
The jailbreak can be performed using RedSn0w 0.8 for Windows and Mac. BigBoss is hosting the files here: Windows, Mac
Features: 1) Stable jailbreak tested by dev-team 2) Icy + Cydia problem solved (we think). 3) Ultrasn0w tested and working on 3gs 4) Proper kernel patches which will enable logome (after its updated for 3.0). 5) Mobile Substrate + Winterboard now working on 3gs.
The guides are very similar to the iPhone 3G but we have created specific ones for the 3GS since future jailbreaks will likely get more complicated. You can find them here: (Windows, Mac).

Seems like all you have to do if you already have installed the custom firmware is run redsnow and it's that easy.
Why to use dev team over purplera1n? I had a lot of apps that i downloaded from cydia crash the phone and put it into safe mode, and installed with redsnow they don't.

Mobile Substrate? That's what my only guess would be. I found it very weird that the Dev-Team would chose now to release their jailbreak after saying "we are going to wait until 3.1". Crock? Hmm, now that Saurik has updated MS(not microsoft(N)), and winterboard works, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER APPS THAT DEPENDED ON MS(once again not meaning microsoft), including iRealSMS and biteSMS(odly it did seeing that I think this was one of the best 3rd sms apps on the phone), the devteam releases their jailbreak. Crock? No, I say "Not wanting GeoHotz to get all the credit for finding the exploit. Again." But hey, thanks for the jailbreak anyways.

If it stays stuck on the reboot process, hold down the sleep and home button until the iPhone shuts off, then let go of the buttons, wait a few seconds, and then press the sleep button to turn it on. If it works fine after that and it is jailbroken don't worry about it, if it doesn't work then reinstall the firmware and try again. Nothing is perfect and there will be a few instances where the jailbreak process won't go correctly, it's happened to me many times.

Mine stayed in the authorize mode as well, until I switched off the 3g mode if you're on t-moblie. Then it works just fine.

Will this jailbreak slow down the 3gs ?
0
Nick - July 7, 2009 at 1:37pm
I noticed that the boot time on the 3GS doubled after the jailbreak. I also noticed that it does lag a tiny bit here and there, but now that I've been using it for a few hours it's been running fine. It only really lagged a after I first started the phone up or after restarting the springboard, but after that everything has run the same. Everything startsup up fast, there is no lag on the keyboard, the internet is still just as fast, etc.
Besides the startup time, there have been no downsides to jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS.

Thanks..... Now I cant download anything from the app store
0
Nick - July 7, 2009 at 2:18pm
I'm not having any problems downloading or installing any apps via the Appstore on mine. What errors or problems are you having? What does it say? Does it just crash? Did you make sure you are logged into your iTunes account since you can have multiple accounts with the 3.0 software?

CesOne - July 7, 2009 at 2:42pm
Right Account............... It goes to install and stay on waiting then nothing

Nick - July 7, 2009 at 3:03pm
Have you installed all of the updates via Cydia? If not, open up Cydia, install all the important updates, restart the iPhone and try again. If all that doesn't work, don't do a regular restart of the iPhone, hold down the sleep and home button until the iPhone shuts off (disregarding the power off slider) then let go of the buttons, wait a few seconds, then press the sleep button to turn the iPhone back on. If all that doesn't work, then try reinstalling the firmware and jailbreaking again.

I did it work.... Now when I get home I will redo it. Right now I put back the original os...

if I jailbroke with purplera1n and did a backup jailbroken and then jailbreak with redsn0w, can I restore from my purplera1n backup??
0
Jim - July 7, 2009 at 1:00pm
Doesn't work on Windows 7 64-bit with or without compatibility mode on. Also doesn't work in the Virtual XP that comes with the RC. Just an FYI.

slevytam - July 7, 2009 at 1:29pm
The tutorial was performed on Windows 7 64bit. It works.

hey do i have to restore my iphone 3gs if i already installed purper1an? or can i just use this and it will over write the purpelra1n? please someone let me know. thank you.
0
todesto - July 7, 2009 at 12:34pm
why do you want to run this again if you already ran purplera1n?
dev team is just releasing to show they can do it to protect their name since GeoHot beat them with much more intuitive jailbreak.
0
Aman - July 7, 2009 at 12:36pm
Yes you need to restore, because the geohot jailbreak doesn't patch the kernel which is need for winterboard like apps.

todesto - July 7, 2009 at 1:01pm
Isnt' mobilesubstrate for winterboard and such?
I believe mobilesubstrate is updated already to support winterboard.

You don't need the IBEC, IBSS, or ECID in order to use this jailbreak. They are having you get those files because they will most likely be needed for future jailbreaks.
I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS already and so far it works great. I have FiveIconDock, Winterboard, Notifier, and StandardSmallNotifierIcons installed. I haven't tested backgrounder yet, but I soon will be.
I just want to warn people that you SHOULD read the apps before you install them to make sure they are even compatible with the 3.0 software. Also, even though something might be compatible with the 3.0 software doesn't mean it is compatible with the iPhone 3GS. Just be careful when installing different apps.
In order to jailbreak you only need Redsnow 0.8 and the 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3GS. You simply open up the RedSnow program, point it to the firmware package, and then follow it's instructions. You don't need to reinstall the firmware in order to jailbreak, it very similar to Quickpwn in the fact that it will jailbreak without the reinstall.

0
patrick - July 7, 2009 at 1:34pm
no i jailbroke mine with purplera1n a few days ago and my push still works
0
lmuggs - July 13, 2009 at 7:10pm
Installing either mobile substrate or winterboard seems to kill push for me.

The iPhone Dev-Team has asked 3GS owners to prepare for the upcoming jailbreak by capturing their iBEC and iBSS files...Does this instructions needed when were going tojail break using redsnow?... And if not, do we need to keep it for future use?
