This doesn't appear to be needed with Mac OS 10.11.1. There's already an override file for the display with the correct EDID (not the DELL one).

I am happy to report that this technique is now successful on a retina iMac under El Capitan! Note that the location where the system file should be placed is changed (/System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/) and you have to disable SIP to make the modification.

Has anyone else with Mac Pro's had issues with this. I got it to work after following the steps, but now after another restart, if I have more than the Port 2 minidisplay port plugged in, the monitor doesn't recognize the feed. No idea how that happened but now I can't seem to get it to come back to 5k.

I have a bit of updates:I have a bit of updates, testing on my: -Macbook Pro 2012(GT650M) -Macbook Pro 2013(GT750M) -Hackintosh(GTX960) 1) Boot Camp -With Windows 10 Professional RTM Installed -With latest Nvidia Driver(Windows) Installed -With latest HP Z27Q Driver Installed I am able to get 5K Resolution with no problem 2) Mac OS 10.10.4 -With latest Nvidia Driver(OS) Installed http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/301416-nvidia-web-driver-updates-for-yosemite/ -With DisplayVendorID-22f0 folder Installed https://www.iclarified.com/49265/how-to-enable-support-for-the-hp-z27q-5k-monitor-in-mac-os-x-yosemite I am able to get 5K Resolution too!! On HP Z27Q, It is just the screen is spilt into 2 with the right half of the desktop displayed and duplicated. Conclusion: The hardware is fully supporting MST with Nvidia driver. We need a HP Z27Q OS driver update from apple/HP/iclarified to get it running on Nvidia Mac!! thx!!

With above method on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013, gt750m), I got a mirrored spilt screen on my hp z27q. Any work around? How about on a hackintosh with a gtx 960? I only got 4k at the moment.

Have you tried below? http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/158311-5k-resolution-5120x2880-via-nvidia-drivers-dell-ultrasharp-27-monitor.html try boot flag "nv_spanmodepolicy=1" try a different device smbios for Mac Pro rather than iMac. Please let me know if z27q is fully working on hackintosh. I'm considering to buy z27q.

thx! with above hack, It is working on Hackindosh(Unibeast) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 on 10.10.5, but you have to 1) latest NVIDIA driver installed. 2) modify AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext 3) Install SwitchResx 4)Boot with monitor off It is also working on 10.11.1 on a macbook pro 2013(not on macbook pro 2012) but the hacking location is a bit different and again step 1) & 4) is needed

Can anyone get this to work on a late 2014 Retina iMac? I have this HP monitor and was unsuccessful trying to use it as an extra display on my retina iMac.

Would this work for a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)?
