People say that since apple had the assistive touch automatically enable they must've known this solid-state button won't be as reliable. I think it has more to do with the operating system, iOS 10. The way you unlock your device is by clicking the home button; slide to unlock is gone. So if assistive touch didn't enable, your phone would be unusable until you fix the home button.

my home button on my 5s hasn't been working recently, works only 10% of the time, but I think the problem is software not hardware, because it works fine for few minutes after restarting or doing the home button reset procedure. after seeing this, I am starting to think this is a ploy by apple to get people into apple store for "service" for phantom home button issues, those covered by warranty get it fixed, those outside the warranty have to payup for a non-existent issue, that would be smart for them, new source of income.

My 5s button still works and I haven't once used an on screen button and more often than not, I use touch I.D. besides the passcode.

They add fix in software but not in hardware.

So it will happen?

Why is it that the problems always came to the variants 4, 6, and now 7? I'm sure they gonna get sued now by the whiners.

This is all based on how differently designed many phone models are, except the 7 problem here fixes itself (well, 95% of everything is fixed thanks to the on screen home button) but I'd rather deal with many problems iPhones would have rather than the explosion note 7 that was quickly discontinued as quick as a pilot not picked up.

Phukai - think before you type your babbling defense. Of course it isn't "90% fixed". It just enables a digital home button. This is not fixed. There is a hardware problem that needs to be serviced and is a pain in the ass for whoever it happens to.

After you Mr. Contradicter. It is fixed except the part where it's touch I.D.! If you could bother understanding, this is a backup home button that works in SOME ways like the main home button. That's what I was saying!!

The iPhone 5 had a faulty power button, Google iPhone 5 power sleep warranty and you'll see the apple page for it

It would seems their is circuitry in the button that prevents it from working correctly. Has anyone disassembled it ?

It's not a physical button so how did it break??? I had a customer come in with a 7 plus and the power button was already compressed and wouldn't click.

At least it tells you and gives you an option instead of blowing up

Yet, the on screen button is the backup, so technically, there may not be a gate here.

IT IS A BUTTONGATE, the fact that they have a backup onscreen temporary solution they knew it will not be reliable as physical button.

Just some spoiled kid with an iPhone 7 so people think they're cool.
