Another Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, iPad [Video]

Another untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, and likely the iPad has been demonstrated by comex.

This jailbreak is a userland exploit which works similar to the jailbreakme.com method from the early jailbreaking days. It will be patched eventually so a release date is still being decided on.

Take a look at comex video below. It's titled 'spirit' but it's unclear if this will be the name of the jailbreak.

@chpwn If this is real as you say, well... share the tool as the Dev Team does, that will prove it's a real thing otherwise a simple video doesn't prove nothing.

Hey all who think its fake: I've been running it on my iPod for a month. Its very real. MuscleNerd says so: http://twitter.com/MuscleNerd/status/11291474448 - Headphones on bottom: its an iPod Touch, not an iPhone. - Its just untethered on an older firmware: an iPod Touch 3G can't ever be untethered, no matter the firmware. This is shown to be an iPod Touch 3G as it has voice control. - the fake voice control for other devices does not look like that OR get started that way.

In cydia the beyouriphone repo has voice control. I know it works for the iPhone3g I dont know about a iPod touch. May be it is fake, maybe it's not.

Jaylou180, iPod Touch 3G has a voice command (similar to iPhone 3GS) but you need to activate it through the home button after connecting the headset to the iPod Touch 3G. Try it out :)

Nobody will buy a new iPod, just to prove that their jailbroken code works. The reason the videos from geohot and this one is similar is because there is instructions in how to show a jailbroken on youtube. I think that when tha Ipad comes out, the new jailbroken will be release. And yes, Apple would delay the ipad release if a hack emerges rigth now.

this is an ipod touch (so people stop asking why the headphones are at the bottom lol! Again this video (like geo's) doesnt show any jailbreaking in progress, just that it is jailbroken with cydia installed and obviously doesnt need to be tethered to boot. BUT... it could still be jailbroken from 3.1 when you could do a untethered jailbreak. if its real surely they would show sum1 opening a brand new ipod/ iphone, showing the firmware, showing the jailbreak in progress, then showing the device booting to prove its untethered and then showing cydia installed. until i see a brand new sealed device jailbroken by the methods above shown i will never beleive until its released and a tutorial posted on iclarified! if any of the above cannot be shown then they obviously cannot prove it, thus NOT REAL

lol, you stil dont get it!! :) lets put it this way, fw doesnt mather, 3.1 or 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. the thether is in the BOOTROM ie HARDWARE. maby you in the next few days get it :)

hmmm, i do get it, i have 2 3g iphones and 3 iphone 3gs. now i have a 3gs jailbroken on 3.1 that doesnt need to be tethered to boot, yet my 3.1.2 is jailbroken but needs to be tethered, my iphone 3.1.3 is stuck and not jailbroken. My point is: i can easily make a video of my 3.1 iphone 3gs booting up (not tethered obviously), and show it booting 3 times, then claiming i have found an untethered jailbreak for 3.1.3!! But WITHOUT proving what firmware its running, the videos claim is would be totally fraud AS IS THIS ONE!!

Tethered or untethered have nothing to do with firmware. What you need to be talking about is if you can tell from the video if it's an itouch 3G because the old 2G can be jailbroken untethered.

wezz69 you are very ill informed. I have a 32g 3GS running 3.1.3, jailbroken and doesn't need tethering to boot. This is because it is running an OLDER bootrom. These videos are trying to prove an untethered jailbreak for devices running a newer bootrom. Your 3GS running 3.1 has an older bootrom so it doesn't need tethering to boot. You can happily update this to 3.1.3, jailbreak and it will still boot without tethering. Your 3GS running 3.1.2 has the newer bootrom so it needs tethering to boot, regardless of which firmware you decide to put on it.
