Samsung's 32-inch M9 OLED Smart Monitor has dropped to $1,299.99 today, a $300 discount that makes it a compelling, feature-rich alternative to Apple's Studio Display for Mac mini and Mac Studio users.
First unveiled at CES 2025, the M9 (model M90SF) offers several advantages over Apple's consumer monitor, particularly for users who split time between creative work and gaming. While the Studio Display relies on standard LCD technology capped at 60Hz, Samsung's 4K QD-OLED panel delivers perfect blacks and a fluid 165Hz refresh rate with a near-instant 0.03ms response time. Apple is reportedly preparing a ProMotion Studio Display to close this performance gap, but that hardware isn't expected to launch until later this year.
Beyond raw display specs, the M9 functions as a standalone entertainment hub. It runs Tizen OS, giving users access to streaming apps and cloud gaming services via Samsung Gaming Hub without needing to wake their Mac. The display also supports AirPlay, includes a 4K SlimFit camera for video calls, and ships with a remote control, adding versatility that a standard monitor lacks.
Samsung has also addressed OLED longevity concerns in a desktop environment. The M9 employs a thermal modulation system to manage heat and uses algorithms that automatically dim static interface elements like taskbars and logos to reduce burn-in risk over time.
For Mac users looking for a larger 32-inch canvas and modern display technology without the $1,599 starting price of Apple's 27-inch Studio Display, this deal offers a strong value proposition.
