Arstechnica has posted some first impressions of their newly delivered Apple 24" LED Cinema display. The new display was announced in October but has just begun arriving to the first lucky customers.

With the Apple LED Cinema Display, you can turn your new MacBook into a desktop in three easy connections. The universal MagSafe connector charges your notebook. A new Mini DisplayPort connector makes attaching an external display even easier and faster than before. And a USB connector provides access to three USB 2.0 ports. There's also a built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speaker system that provide a true desktop experience. Made of aluminum and glass, the LED Cinema Display is the perfect companion for the new MacBook family.

The real nicety of the display is that Mac OS X knows when you have attached the display to use its integrated devices. That is, when you've hooked it all up, it will use the iSight in the display instead of the notebook's, and it will use the USB audio on the display and disable the output on the notebook. That is, until you plug a set of headphones into the port on the notebook, at which time the display's speakers will disable and route the audio directly to your ears automatically.

I can see your point.. But, it is much easier to load windows in a mac and run side by side than osx on a pc...least what I found as far as the full thing working... but yes it can be done.

i can understand people saying that OS(X,Y,Z) whatever they call it, is easier to use, but from what short time i have used a mac for i found it rather limiting... as to what you can do in the more advanced area of a OS... almost childish, which is great for people not so tech-savy but frustrating at times for those who are, and you can run any Mac OS on a PC with the right know how ;)

I just went from pc to Mac after many years of PC. I think the screen is not the only thing that is better but the entire OS is much much easier for users than PC.. If you looking for a monitor might as well get the OS as well which means more sales for apple. Pretty good idea.... the 'halo' effect. At least this worked with me after my 2nd iphone...

Apple have yet again shot themselfs in the foot, not allowing PC uses to use these displays, by only having the apple mico connecter (or whatever its called) i would have been happy to replace both my 22" dell LCDs with a pair of these on my PC, they are clearly above most displays when it comes to quality and image sharpness. Come to think of it, its about the only reason to buy a mac these days.. they have the same chips and components as PC... perhaps they are more "fashionable" then PCs but with a much higher price tag for the same hardware....
