4.7-inch and 5.7-inch iPhones to be Released Later This Year?

Posted January 3, 2014 at 4:55pm by iClarified
A sketchy report from China is claiming that Apple has plans to launch both a 4.7-inch screen and a 5.7-inch screen iPhone. The rumor also claims that both iPhones will be launching with a fingerprint sensor.

We've seen other rumors that Apple has been gearing up to launch an iPhone with a larger display this year -- however how large still remains unknown. The original iPhone launched with a 3.5-inch display, which was later upgraded to 4 inches with the iPhone 5. Apple is quick to claim that a phone too large can be quirky and difficult to use with one hand, so it will be interesting to see if Apple how large of an upgrade it will shoot for.

One of the many criticisms of the current iPhone lineup is that the screen is too small. Nevertheless, we'll have a while to wait to see if Apple finally decides to join other phone manufacturers who are making phone displays larger than 4 inches.

How large of a screen do you want to see on your next iPhone?

Ok.. Leave the phone same size. Keeps the iphone look, just go edge to edge with the screen keeping the 16:9 ratio that would be my choice then maybe give the phone option on iPads with cellular.

Highly doubt iPad would look dumb enough to be edge to edge look.

I have a note 3 and it's 5.7 inches and it fits in every pocket I have and I'm 14. Fits in my skinny jeans and my school blazer top pocket and doesn't stick out and I'm not big at all just have big hands

What about bending your leg up, does it push against your leg?

Not entirely evolved to a tablet (will never go past 6").

You people only want bigger because Samsung has bigger. The ip4/4s was perfect size. I have a ip5s and it's to big for my pocket. My iPad is all ways next to me in my simi or at home for internet. My iPhone is a phone before anything else. If I use for for other things, I'm bored and need something to do to pass time.

I'm happy with 5s, tall as any other phone but not too tall to stick out b/c 3.5" is a bit tiny.

People clearly want larger phones that border on being tablets. Anyone railing against that is just silly. It's ok to have an opinion folks. Please remember that's true not just for your own personal self but for everyone else.

I think two sizes for the people wouldn't hurt. A 4.5 for the average iphone user and maybe a 5.5 or something like that for the Galaxy lovers.

I actually love the iPhone's look as it is, I don't want it any bigger or wider, a 4 inch screen display suits me and I hope that apple won't change that about the iPhone, because then it wouldn't have the "iPhone" look!

Possible they will keep the 4" screen, just hope our next update to go with it is battery than I'm settled.

How about an iPad mini with bluetooth phone headset? Apple can't have too large a product line, otherwise it will compete against itself. For myself, I'd love an iPhone with the Galaxy user experience .. yet smaller! You see, Apple is expert at the user experience. OK, give me a phone that is as usable on the web as Samsung. All screen for a starter. Possibly inventive scrolling. Maybe asymmetric aspect ratio like TV's use where center of focus is standard res, the screed edges at higher resolution. Its all about the user experience. I want a big one.

What part do you mean big?
Owen Densmore
Owen Densmore - January 4, 2014 at 3:26am
Mainly by "big" I mean being able to have the best browser experience possible. Readable. My co-workers all have Samsung and can use the web on their phone far easier than I can. Possibly by having minimal controls, like the camera, Apple could have a small screen deliver a bigger, more usable, user experience. But my next phone is likely to be a Galaxy.

They actually do bring more exp. to the user. The new iOS 7 icons with neon color makes the apps look 2x awesome than iOS 6, airdrop which is a faster way to send pics than wondering around bumping an s4 against another, airplay with speakers, tv's, speed, gpu. iPhone 5s makes my life :D.

Tey can keep the same phone size but with a bigger screen, matching the whole case

3.5....time to go back to when the design of the phone was great. Not the want to be Samsung it is now. Bigger isn't better!
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - January 4, 2014 at 1:27am
Design of iPhone is still great, the good same 4" screen everyone loves will be kept, 3.5" is a bit too small.

There should never had been a 5C should of been a 5" iPhone sitting next to the 4" iPhone

And miss out on the comfortable grip and all the unused plastic people still may want for a phone and all that missed sales apple would have made if it all wasn't for the idea? It's apples decision and the original 5 is being sold still, no 5c wouldn't even boost apple's stocks.

This is totally wrong, Apple is being pressured by competition especially from Samsung and as wrong as it is I understand that Apple have no choice but I do wish that Apple will give us choices on the next iPhones (6), don't you guys understand that it's a phone? not a tablet? The 4 inch size is perfect if Apple and they will come out with a bigger screen phone then I really hope that they will give us choices big or small your choice but both will have the same inside parts, the same amount of memory ( RAM & ROM ) same processor, what I'm trying to say "same phone with choices of sizes" because right now the iPhone is perfect it fits just right in your pocket and in your hand! When I want to use the Net, Watch a movie Play a game, Write an eMail or Connect remotely to my PC at home I use my iPad, my iPhone I use for calls, GPS, texts and internet only if I have no choice and my iPad is not near me which don't happened very often. Don't know if you guys remember or been alive when the cell phone was invented, it started in cars which was connected to the car but fast enough Motorola came out with the first cell phone that you could carry with you but it was a beast, after that it was a race to make the smallest cell phone possible and they sure got small, some you could even fit in the small pocket on the right side of your jeans ( yes that tiny pocket ) and people loved it they couldn't wait to get something smaller, lately there is a lot of talks about a Cell Watch the iWatch or the sh*ty cell watch that Samsung came out with but really they are not cell watches they are a Bluetooth expansion of your cell phone meaning going back to small, in fact if you think that a Cell Arm Watch is a new idea you couldn't be more wrong, I got my first one about 25 years ago and it worked like a charm, there was no sim invented yet the Cell provider programmed the phone number into it, it had a memory of 100 contacts also had a folder for MP3's and came with this one had headphones build in that wined into the watch with a spring so when you got a call you just pulled on the little square thing which went into my ear and there it was a Cell Phone also the battery only had to be charged like once a week and it was cool to own. Then PDA showed up I'm guessing PDA is personal data assistant big screen but not such a big deal only for business people next the same PDA with an antenna which connected to a cell company and you could now also text and not sure but I think also go networking, from there it was a short strait line to the iPhone which sucked ( I still got the iPhone 2G ) iOS 1.0 AT$T only no push which every tiny Nokia had in fact it was missing many things that the little flip Nokia phone had but it was magical because of its awesome touch screen it was announced by Apple as the first phone that can't be unlocked but I was there watching the first international call with a jail broken and unlocked iphone with a different Cell provider, that was when everybody wanted one because there was no App Store yet but after it was jail broken all you had to do was google for iphone Apps and they where free but the truth is that if it wasn't for the App Store invention by Apple the iphone was going no where, you got to understand people back then they where used to charging their little Nokia phones once a week the iphone needed charging a few times a day but the touch screen and the gyro made up for it ( like I said it was magical a car racing game with no buttons just lean the phone left or right and touch to speed up or break, magic ) and with the App Store money came new iPods, iPhones and finally iPads, better stronger and faster with new iOS upgrades which fixed everything that was missing, the App Store saved Apple. Ok I was mumbling way to much, back to the subject give us a choice to stay with the 4 inch iPhone work on a better battery's , that's all we need from a phone!

gamerscul9870 - January 3, 2014 at 11:47pm
Odedo, you have a point but sadly, people are trading their phones for any bigger one out there and don't think about the phones specs. Sadly apple may not have a choice, others are doing it though, many are asking for it yet it's Steve's promise. Apple wouldn't really do this but they have to, maybe just once.

I agree with you guys also i think apple just needs to to get better advertising against big screens after all thats how samsung started. I still have the iphone 4s however i gave the 5c to someone as a gift and got to use it and i think the size is perfect for a "phone" that can actually fit in your pocket. I just think is ridiculous when i see people walking around with phones the size of a tv i am actually curious of how convenient it really is...

I think the iphone should be 5.5 inches !!!!! Screen sizes on other phones are killing iphone. I own an iPhone 4S and video watching is just not good. If u really want to keep people interested go with a big size phone . This way when u do compete with other companies iphone will win because of the camera quality, the iOS 7, and fingerprint scanner. Also the hardware!! So APPLE SHOULD GO WITH A 5.5 INCH SCREEN!!!!!!
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - January 3, 2014 at 7:49pm
It's not killing them that easily, cost is after seeing Samsuck win a jd power award just because cost for their tablet was better than iPad's, but more people love the small screen is what I am saying.

Like. 5 inch screen is any better for video, get an iPad!

odedoo1 - January 3, 2014 at 8:50pm
K is right nothing is killing the iPhone and p of iPhone owners prefer the screen to stay 4 inch Steve Jobs would have never let Apple build a bigger screen iPhone or a mini iPad.

Fonseka - January 4, 2014 at 2:57pm
Or even better a TV. My fellow fiends if your at home complaining that your phone is too small to watch movies... Theres this thing called TV (most likely) rite in front of you... I mean really if you have time to watch a full movie on your phone you must be on a flight or really long trip which doesn't happen every day or maybe just unemployed with too much time on your hand

My wife used to have a galaxy s2. The sceeen was 4.3" i think. It felt pretty good in hand not too big and not too small. So somewhere between 4.3 and 4.5 would be my sweet spot.

Yep ditto on that 4.3 is really the sweet spot not 4 or 5!

Similar to Lee's post .. But 4.5 edge to edge .. Just think edge to edge ( all 4 sides as well ) will make the phone look huge ...
