i have updated my 2g from 1.1.4. to 3.0.1 everything worked all right till i checked the app for cydia. after this the phone went black and the apple appeared. after the battery went flat nothing is working any more. can anybody help ?
gusgus - August 22, 2009 at 11:38am
Trying to update 2g to 3.0.1 but at step 6 I get "Unable to recognize specified IPSW". I am able to successfully update to 3.0 though. All were downloaded using Firefox on mac. What's up with 3.0.1? In any event, thanks iclarified for these tutes!
Louis - August 26, 2009 at 6:46am
The instructions state to follow the rest of the guide as indicated; which roughly means you restore in iTunes using 3.0.1 (iPhone1,1_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw) but then when RedSn0w asks for the IPSW to verify, browse to the 3.0.0 IPSW file (iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw). Hope this helps!
tomadarsh - August 31, 2009 at 3:28pm
BL 3.9 - link is not working, can u recheck that. Is it possible to jailbreak/unlock iphone 3gs 3.0.1 .
On-Wax - August 21, 2009 at 2:26am
I have the IPhone 3GS with 3.0.1 firmware, when i tried to restore the phone using "iPhone1,1_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw" it gave me an error message that said "the IPhone... could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible" Any ideas??? Please???
dtown218 - September 12, 2009 at 1:16am
read the tut! this is for a iPhone 2g not and iPhone 3g like you say u have. duh..
ReliableSource101 - August 20, 2009 at 12:40am
Thanks For the Info it worked great for my iphone 2g I'll be sure to return to this site for any other information needs. Keep up the good work!
MrBlue - August 11, 2009 at 7:02pm
Hello, my 2G was succesfully upgraded to 3.0.1. the only problem is phone call sound became vibrate only. No ringtone. How can I solve it? thanx
pmb - August 9, 2009 at 9:26am
These tutorials I find seem to only work for the *iPhones* and not the iPod Touch as claimed to do? Would like to hear from an iPod Touch 2G owner that got theirs to work. No matter which firmware version I tried after all the suggestions across the 'net, it never worked with my iPod Touch 2G (v.3.0). Hangs on the "reboot" message every time. Bah. Not worth the hassle...
bence - September 8, 2009 at 5:52am
I had the same problem, but it works with the 0.7 redsnow
paul - August 9, 2009 at 1:02am
getting everything but no internet...error says i am not connected to a cellular data service.....but I am. i use sim with my samsung eternity for internet on att....HELP.....IVE RAN THIS PROGRAM 5 TIMES.
Mike - August 6, 2009 at 5:55am
Not happy here. After running all my Apple app icons disappeared including the ones in the dock. Stick to PWNAGE.
Raya - August 5, 2009 at 5:06pm
My iphone is now on DFU mode and its "waiting to reboot". How long should this normaly take? Mine is stuck here for like 5 minutes. What do i do?
faxao - August 5, 2009 at 5:15pm
in case your iPhone does not reboot in some 20 secs you have to unplug from the USB cable and immediately plug it in again: this trick did work for me.
RayaI - August 5, 2009 at 5:25pm
Its not working, Its still stuck. :S I removed it from the usb for 1 second, and plugged it back again.
faxao - August 5, 2009 at 5:30pm
do not worry.....go back again and redo the whole procedure from the beginning (iPhone in DFU, update the firmware to the 3.0 and go through the redsn0w 0.8 again)...the second time did work for me
rossb - August 17, 2009 at 6:10pm
As faxao said - unplugging from the USB then immediately plugging it back in worked for me as well. Whew! I was worried there for a second!!! Thanks faxao!
airwalker - August 29, 2009 at 5:59pm
Same thing here. After redsn0w got stucked with "Rebooting" iPhone 2G, a quick disconnect and reconnect of the USB cable did the job :-) Ufff...
jc - September 15, 2009 at 10:44am
unplug your usb cable from the mac and then plug back in. that should reinitiate the boot process.
Jason - January 10, 2010 at 1:43am
I got stuck too at "Waiting for reboot." Taking it out of the dock and then right back in got it moving fine.
Raya - August 4, 2009 at 7:04pm
When i choose the firmware, It says "Unable to recognize specified ipsw" HELP!
faxao - August 5, 2009 at 2:28am
download again the appropriate firmware and check that the file has got the .ipsw format (use explorer or firefox browser not safari) should work
faxao - July 28, 2009 at 3:58am
It worked like a charm on my iPhone 2G fw 1.1.4 upgraded to 3.0. The only problem I had was related to the reboot of the phone during the redsn0w procedure. I had to detach and reattach immediately the phone from the USB cable (connected to my Mac) and this did the trick ! Thanks
iFlicks - August 30, 2009 at 8:16pm
Unplugging and plugging back in at reboot worked!
squidge - July 25, 2009 at 8:28pm
ok, I did the unlock through redsnow and I can make calls but why can't I access the web? It says I don't have a cellular data service. I have the following in my network settings: username: vertigo the password is hidden but I'm sure this is what it had before so how come it's not working? I'm with O2 (carphone warehouse) but I just have a sim through them and I got the iphone from my brother who unlocked it for me. any suggestions as to how I can get my internet access back - I pay monthly (contract) and have internet as free with the deal I manage to get.
squidge - July 25, 2009 at 8:51pm
ok - got it. if you don't have an iphone internet tariff then you have to change the to works now. phew... only took several hours to update to v3.0, lol :-)
SD - July 24, 2009 at 10:26am
When I download the iPhone1, file, and then I click it to expand it, it simply restores the archive to a folder with the name iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw which is no good, as iTunes will not recognise this. It's a regular folder, not a cool little lego piece like in the pics above. PLEASE help. How do I do this?? Thanks!
joe - July 31, 2009 at 1:10am
I had same problem, just delete the .zip at the end and it automatically turns into the "lego" icon
meed2000 - July 18, 2009 at 3:13pm
Amazing. Moved from firmware 1.4, iphone 1st generation to this firmware 3.0. The speed and reactivity of the phone has greatly increased. No problem processing different steps, thanks to dev-team and iclarified for the tutorial. As said above, use firefox as it does not auto uncompress ipsw files.
Phocko - July 18, 2009 at 11:49am
Do I wait til after jailbreaking/unlocking to install my sim card?
faxao - July 31, 2009 at 2:08am
It actually does not matter whether your SIM card is inside the iPhone or not in order to jailbreak/unlock it. I ran through the redsn0w 0.8 procedure with the SIM inside (iPhone 2G) and it worked out well.

moshpit - July 10, 2009 at 11:50am
DON'T use USB-Hubs... wont boot your iPhone!
squidge - July 25, 2009 at 8:03pm
thanks for that! I've recently had my imac fixed and hadn't realised that I'd plugged my dock in to a usb hub. I've been trying to unlock my phone now for over a day!!! couldn't find out why until I just saw your post! phew... thank you very much!
skeet - July 10, 2009 at 3:47am
For the people who get stuck at the black screen to reboot. Just take out the usb cable, restart the ipod (as you normally would) and immediately put back the usb cable... I just did that almost all those things in a second... at least as quick as possible, and it restarted fine and is now installing everything. Just so you know. I never really like these comments where everybody is saying how simple it all was and how intelligent they are without even helping some other people... Just my 2 pence. Laters guys!
Stefano - July 27, 2009 at 4:15pm
You made my day ! The trick did work perfectly after many attempts that were ending with the black screen in the middle of the redsn0w 0.8 my great iPhone 2G is enjoying his new youth with the 3.0 firmware !! Thanks for the precious hint !
Yancey - July 6, 2009 at 11:44pm
Anyone able to point me to a tutorial for upgrading my unlocked/jailbroken 2G iphone to OS 3.0. Any comments on your successes welcome too. I believe I understood that all that was necessary was to use the update in iTunes since the baseband was not updated. Holding out for more information. Thanks in advance Yancey

Excellent tut. Now have an iPhone 2G on the Virgin network-cheers.
Fredrik - July 2, 2009 at 7:30am
Perfect! I had upgraded my pwnage iPhone 2G to 3.0 but youTube didn't work so I did this tutorial to reset the 3.0 and apply redsn0w. Works great!
abstract - July 1, 2009 at 12:40pm
I can't seem to download the redsn0w file (it doesnt end in .zip) and both bootloaders in the first step... help? Thanks
Fero - June 30, 2009 at 12:34pm
I managed to upgrade my 2G iphone to 3.0 without any problem. However, although I have the edge icon on the top I cannot go online. Did anyone else encounter this problem? Could you please help me solve it. Thanks in advance.
Kurd - June 29, 2009 at 11:51pm
Dev-Team is the best. It was a piece of cake to upgrade my 2G iphone on 3G software. Thanks a lot guys!!!!
belami - June 28, 2009 at 4:19pm
Worked great - but be aware of the Safari "feature" of unpacking the contents automatically. Use Firefox or the file from the trash bin. Then it is absolutely fail-safe. Thanks to everybody doing this for us :-)

Marto - June 25, 2009 at 3:56pm
Does anyone know what happens if you upgrade to 3.0 a 2G iPhone that has been unlocked/jailbroken with iLiberty+? Will redsn0w work in this iPhone? Thanks
Shiva - June 26, 2009 at 1:45am
yes. Everything can be broken from redsnow
chris - June 25, 2009 at 7:48am
well...THANKS and iclarified crew! did the whole process successfully - only one problem: why are the new apps except voice memo not on my phone now? no video, no compass, no compass or horizontal keyboard...
ryanstyle - June 29, 2009 at 12:33pm

Dom - June 30, 2009 at 12:03am

felo500 - June 22, 2009 at 8:09pm
one question: for those like me who are with tmobile and have been using an unlocked/jailbroken iphone 2.2.1 for a while now, will the upgrade delete the apps or contacts or calendar appointments?
Solly - June 24, 2009 at 2:27pm
Just syn with itunes first and all will be OK
as is
as is - June 22, 2009 at 6:40pm
weird, I updated my 2G iphone, previously unlocked with pwnage tool on version 2 and it worked directly after the itunes update, I didn't need to use RedSn0w...
Fredrik - June 26, 2009 at 6:13pm
