CDMA is Verizon and GSM is AT&T. The Verizon iPhone is definitely coming out with Wi-Fi hotspot tethering for up to 5 devices, people are guessing that the 4.3 firmware will also enable it on all the other iPhones (which are GSM based on AT&T's network).
"I guess this means the current untethered jailbreaks for iOS 4.2.1 will be postponed yet again in wait for iOS 4.3"; I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case.
I hope this isn't the case, I'm still on firmware 4.0.1 and I've been waiting for the 4.2.1 jailbreak for quite some time. I'm getting tired of these bluetooth problems and the proximity sensor issues as well.
And we don't have to pay a stupid additional fee to tether with our iPhone. I also think it's ridiculous that AT&T is also forcing people off of their unlimited data plans down to a 2GB data plan if they want to add on the tethering option. Guess what AT&T? I've been tethering since before you even offered a tethering plan and won't be stopping, paying more, or getting rid of my unlimited data plan!
MyWi Rules, and saved me money also when i bought a 64GB ipad without 3g, and i use MyWi on my iPhone 4, works beautyfull!!!!!! Easy, no extra charges, Just Good Stuff!!!!!
That's what I was planning on doing when I buy an iPad too! One thing I did notice, and this could just be me, but has anyone else noticed that using MiWi produces slower internet speeds than using PDAnet? It could just be a bug with my iPhone or something along those lines, but I was just curious. Not that it really matters too much, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed this.
Hey Nick it happened to me, i just went to cydia uninstalled mywi, (and i presume u bought the app also), and installed it again. Theres an update already that supports bluetooth also...
i think apple should hand over the programming to MR. jay freeman.and let him help design a stunning reliable fully loaded OS with great features i think that would go over smoothly with me
Oh just you wait, I bet they'll be adding to the SMS client in iOS 5.x. It is real funny how Apple has been slowly implementing features that have been available through jailbreaking for so long now, this is exactly the reason why I jailbreak my phone, because I'm not going to wait for Apple to slowly release these features just to keep the general masses excited about their new iOS. This is also a reason why I love the people that work on jailbreaking the iPhone and the developers behind the apps available through jailbreaking.
can someone answer this tho? with the new hotspot. does that have anything to do with tethering u dont need to att a tethering plan to use this do u ? if so ill just stick with my jb mywi
i would think u would need a tethering thing why would apple add this feature knowing att got rid of unlimited data plan . tho i still have it
Speaking of factory-unlocked iPhones, let me throw this question out. The fact that Verizon got the iPhone means the AT&T/iPhone exclusivity is over, no? That being the case, does that mean that Apple will ship factory-unlocked iPhones (which could be used on T-Mobile) from now on?
I'm guessing no. Verizon doesn't have an exclusive deal with Apple on the iPhone for the CDMA model, but I'm guessing that AT&T and Apple still have an exclusive agreement for the GSM version of the iPhone. They might release a unlocked version of the CDMA iPhone, but I highly doubt it.
I imagine the networks will take advantage of this and charge for an extra 'Tether' package.....They can't have a laptop slurping up all that connectivity
no i heard from a very relaible source at ATT there will be a small fee of $15 a month plus a $20 tethering plan so just a $35 dollar a month charge which aint to bad at all
No, to add tethering to your data plan you cannot be on the unlimited data plan any longer. You have to move to the 2GB data plan, which is $25, to add tethering as an option.
John, why 35$ a month when u can dload MyWi From Cydia for 20 bucks and use your unlimited data plan, like... UNLIMITED. And the battery will drain as much as the original app...
Rgds
And through Jailbreaking your device you don't have to pay for tethering either! I will never pay for tethering, as far as I'm concerned that's a feature that should be included for free on every unlimited data plan.
