For those with iphone 3gs, Apple don't let you to restore to 3.1.2 firmware. You will get an error saying that " unable to build ". So watch carefully what you are doing with your iphone. If you do something wrong and need to restore, your only option is to upgrade to 3.13 NO CHOICE. BE CAREFUL. THERE IS NO JAILBREAK AND/OR UNLOCK SOLUTION FOR 3GS WITH 3.1.3 FIRMWARE AS OF TODAY.

My wife's 3gs is at 3.1 still, jailbroken with Pwnage Tool. We want to do a restore with Pwnage Tool to 3.1.2 because of a few issues...Can I still do that? We are on att, so unlock isn't an issue. But will the restore to 3.1.2 with a customer IPSW still be okay?

I have an iPhone 3gs on 3.1.2 jailbroken & unlocked using blackrain, cydia has stopped working for some reason, it won't open at all. Is there any way to fix this other than a restore & jailbreaking again?

Also, if you don't have ssh installed, everywhere in the tutorial it says to ssh use iphonebrowser to access the files on your phone. If you get it working install ROCK it is nice to have both Cydia and Rock as backups for each other. I've had Cydia crash like this twice. Both times this is the way I fixed it. (from the link above) Reason For Crash: Apparently the problem is caused by some corrupted repositories that make Cydia crash within the first few seconds of loading it. How to Identify: N/A How To Fix: There is a quick and dirty fix for that and it requires to either SSH into your iPhone or use iPhoneBrowser and delete a few files. To fix this, simply navigate to /var/lib/apt/lists and delete all the files in this folder except for the folder called “partial”. Then reboot your iPhone and launch Cydia. It should load without crashing.

My iPhone died two days ago, new 3Gs bootrom... actually week 42. Tried jailbreaking with redsn0w and caused a complete DFU loop. I kept trying to update to 3.1.2 the past day with iTunes, only to read this.

I have an unlocked iPhone 3GS OS 3.1.2 and it's been pretty stable so far. But just in case something goes wrong, I would like to know if I will be able to use blackra1n to boot it and then unlock with blacksn0w instead of having to restore?

That should work, but if you have the newer version of the iPhone 3GS, you only can do a tethered jailbreak which means that you must plug in the iPhone to your computer and run the software everythime your iphone dies or restarts. If you have iPhone 2G/3G you should be okay. https://www.iclarified.com/entries/index.php?caid=2&scid=11&seid=2

The apple logo state is not dfu mode. Have you tried to restart the iphone by holding the home button and power button för several seconds until the phone restarts?
