WhatsApp Overhauls CarPlay Experience, Adds iPad Sign-Up and PDF Tools

WhatsApp announced several new features today spanning CarPlay, iPad, PDF handling, and music sharing. The updates are rolling out now.



WhatsApp has refreshed its CarPlay and Android Auto experience. Drivers can now hear and reply to incoming messages, place calls, view recent call history, and access favorite contacts directly from their vehicle's display. Previously, support was limited primarily to messaging and calling.


iPad users can now create a WhatsApp account directly from the tablet without first linking the app to another device. Registration still requires a phone number to receive a verification code, but after setup the iPad functions as a standalone device rather than a linked companion.

WhatsApp Web and the Windows desktop app are also gaining an Adobe Acrobat integration that lets users open PDFs inside WhatsApp without downloading them first. They can also highlight and annotate documents directly within the chat, while shared PDFs remain protected by WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption.

Another addition lets users share songs from Apple Music or Spotify directly to their WhatsApp Status, making it easy for contacts to see what they're listening to.
