Apple is expected to overtake Nokia as the world's top smartphone vendor in terms of shipment volume in 2011, reports DigiTimes. Global smartphone shipments are expected to rise from 288 million to 462 million this year and Apple is estimated to ship 86.4 million of those. That number is up from 47.5 million in 2010.
Nokia's smartphone shipments are expected to decline from 100 million in 2010 to 74.4 million and Samsung is expected to ship 67 million units.
