The Art of iPhone Battery Life

The Art of iPhone Battery Life

Guy Kawasaki has posted his iPhone 3G settings that reportedly give him 36 hours of standby time.

Some of my buddies have expressed astonishment that I get approximately thirty-six hours of standby with my iPhone, so I'm sharing my settings. Note: this is my second 3G iPhone--I returned the first one because I was getting only five hours of standby time.
....
I don't know if you'll get this kind of standby time (or more!), but this is what works for me. Of course, people with lesser phones are having a good chuckle because they get three to five days standby time, but their phones aren't cool. And it's better to have a cool phone that you have to charge everyday than a sucky phone that you can charge once a week.

Ok Ive just managed to get a screen shot of my power usage! (this is the first time my phone has not hard reset is self and reset the counters before the last full charge!) 3G ON Wifi ON BT ON Push On Location OFF 2.0 jail broken The phone gets used mostly for Emails, Calls, Ipod, Pictures, Texting Not much internet use. http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/1919/img0004zp4.jpg So why everyone else is getting poor battery power is beyond me, and also just to add my friends N95 gets less than half of usage at the same settings.

Hey actually I think it's quite smart. I own the 3G since I bought it in my country from the carrier (Sweden). I too don't have the 3G on, while it's in my pocket... It' kind of stupid to have 3G on for no reason so it just drain the batteries. 3G on and I have to recharge every night almost. off and just switch it on when I'm out of wifi enables me to have the phone on for days. there is having everything on just because you can, thus stupid and there's smart and just use it when you want it....

newtest....you mean, you're paperweight is great. On a side note, some applications do benefit from the GPS. Pathtrack for instance, lets you trace your whereabouts. Won't work properly on a 1st gen iPhone, where the 3G iphone does. Otherwise, the upgrade is a waste of money. Since the original pohne is not available for sell as new anymore (at least, through the normal channels) it remains the only choice for someone who wants to get it. I don't see any value upgrading. But it's still a nice ipod with phone features in my opinion. But the whole post on battery life... funny.... how to remove features and be happy about it! :)

I get 48 hours standby and 4 hours usage with everything on except Location. For my phone it seems that as soon as i switch off the Wifi the handset will not go to sleep and this drains the battery in a whole day, With Wifi and 3G and Push (which doesnt work) on i get two full days usage (48hrs) a few hours of calls, some ipod usage, internet, emails and texts. So 36 hours is nothing to shout about.

Too bad my Nokia N82 gets about 2 or 3 days before I even think of recharging it. With this guys settings, you might as well just turn it off completely and leave it in the charging station. His settings me nothing to people that actually want to use their iPhone.

What do you mean with Adobe Photoshop? He has 3g turned off, and 3g is the main different between 1:st gen iphone and 2:nd. 3g off = 1:st gen iphone
