Apple is now selling the iPhone 3G online for new AT&T customers in what is likely an attempt to clear inventory ahead of the next iPhone's release.
The Apple Online Store only supports new AT&T customers at this time. If you are an existing AT&T customer, you can reserve your iPhone online for pickup at an Apple Retail Store.

Not at apple.com -- only at AT&T's website. The news is worthy as it is reporting that they are now available for purchase online at apple.com.
(HINT: Read, THINK, Read again, then post [if you find it absolutely necessary...])
