First Generation Apple TV Owners Report Difficulties Connecting to iTunes

Posted April 20, 2014 at 5:25pm by iClarified
First generation Apple TV owners are reporting difficulties connecting to iTunes on their device. A growing thread on Apple Support Communities details the problem.

Here's a sample complaint from georgevargas:

Accessing the Internet works. The Trailers option flickers off when selected but if I am quick enough I can access it. The trailers will stutter, pause and lag. No access to the iTunes Store at all for movies, tv shows, or podcast. Youtube works without a problem. I unpluged the AppleTv twice, and restared it with the remote once. All is not well.

As of last night I had full acces to the iTunes Store. Since this morning I was getting an Itunes Store Not Available message, and after unplugging the AppleTv the iTunes Store access completly disappeared except for movie trailers.

Diagnostics, rebooting, and restoring the device has not helped users experiencing the issue.

MacRumors has also been able to confirm the problem with their own device.

At this point in time Apple has not addressed the matter; however, we'll let you know when it's resolved. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

Sounds like a case of planned obsolescence http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence

Exact same problem I experienced three days ago. First the store is not available then nothing even my own movies are unavailable. I have the original AtV nod am currently looking for a non Apple replacement device. Roku, WD etc. Obviously this is a system related problem as numerous instances at the same time.

Don't you know how the newer ones work, they are way much of an improvement of the 1st one, though it doesn't mean they work as bad as this one, go for the 2nd b/c it's jail breakable and works better.

How can Apple not have issued a statement by now? It's been five days. Microsoft would be vilified if not indicted for doing this. Apple's customers have made a commitment to their ecosystem based on trust—trust that I feel more and more was misplaced. And, no, I don't want to upgrade to a new version that requires me to (1) give up local storage and require me to leave my computer on all the time so my daughter can watch My Little Pony, or (2) replace my perfectly good plasma TV with one that has HDMI inputs just to accommodate Apple (if, indeed, this is what they are requiring, although nobody knows). In fact, I may give up waiting patiently for iPhone6 and just go Android or (gasp!) Windows.

You do realize this was for "way early" apple products right? Who needs a cluttered random tiles os, or better yet why use an infected open sourced os?
I want my Itunes
I want my Itunes - April 21, 2014 at 11:04pm
I can't access Itunes on any of my pcs now. Everything was fine last week, but now I can't even see the store. I called customer support, and was told to uninstall the old version, and install the latest version. I did all of that for 2 computers, and even turned off my firewalls temporarily to see if they were somehow blocking access to the store. Nothing worked. I think the problem is wider spread than just the Apple TVs. By the way, the person I was talking with from customer service asked if she could hang up to reboot her computer and then call back. Unfortunately, she never called me back. I plan to note that whenever I get the email asking me if my problem was resolved.

I had so major issues getting my jail broken atv2 to connect to iTunes earlier. It let me buy a movie then wouldn't let me watch it. After much rebooting, logging out and in and swearing it eventually worked. All the time it worked fine on my mac book pro. Maybe it's unrelated.

Welcome to the new Apple TV, enjoying the 2nd one jail broken well worth $100, not greedy but not cheap as chromecrashed specs are compared to rokunt. Newer is better even with features. Can't wait for atv4. If Mac Pro came a long way to being this good, how can atv4 disappoint?
