Guys, there's a whole bunch of things that go on at the back for an event like this. The 2mil helps create tourism, increase potential customers to businesses thereby opportunities for jobs etc. It could also boost the city's profile and improve morale. The positive onflow effect from such an event can last way beyond the actual event. So think of the bigger picture.

They're trying to help many people possibly, besides they can still get it back since many are asking for bigger iPhone (even if the cost is still cheaper) and still have profit.
