Apple Has Reportedly Ended Its Free 'Single of the Week' Promotion After 11 Years

Posted January 13, 2015 at 7:29pm by iClarified
Apple has ended its iTunes free 'Single of the Week' promotion after a run of 11 years, reports Business Insider.

No free songs have appeared on iTunes since the start of 2015 and apparently Apple support has confirmed that the promotion is no longer running.

Bob Foss, a user on Apple's Support Community, said, "I contacted iTunes Support and they told me the decision was made to drop the free Single of the Week. Seems they don't want people browsing the Store anymore. I told them that the free single each week got me to the Store and I usually bought a few songs. Now, there's less reason to go. They've stopped the free single in other countries too."

Apple started giving out a free single of the week back in 2004. Unfortunately, it seems music lovers will no longer have this promotion to look forward to.

Well... Very sad... I mean no more single of the week, no more 12 days app... It seems that Tim want to stop what Steve made in the last years to promote in different ways their products! Ok iPhone, iPad ecc ecc deserve all the cents that you paid (or at least the most of them) but I think that those kind of promotions give to the users a new way to approach to their devices!

So, does this mean Apple will stop trying to off load crappy U2 albums too?

the money they did not get is always a speculation, it is just if ...... anyone can shoot the value they want. it is the same about piracy downloads or in the past K7 recordings, the record companies always crying for their losses. what they are not able to do is to let a consumer buying something (a CD a Music) if the consumer is not convinced that deserves the money they are requiring for it.

I always enjoyed discovering new music with the free single. I have an alarm on my phone that has been going off for the last 6 or 7 years to remind me every Tuesday of the new single. Oh well. Life goes on, right?

Download the free Starbucks iOS app and you will get a free iTunes single every week or two from prominent artists such as Sturgill Simpson, Eric Clapton, and Mary J. Blige. In my opinion, the music is superior to what the Apple Store has offered over the past decade.

Didn't know about this but yet another Apple freebie has stopped - 12 Days Of Christmas being the other one. They charge a LOT for their products (don't get me wrong, their products are great) and this was their giving back to their loyal buyers but clearly they are now sticking their fingers up to us - what's next, the free app from the Apple Store app?
