Sony Music CEO Doug Morris confirmed in an interview on stage that Apple will announce its rumored music streaming service tomorrow at WWDC.
“It’s happening tomorrow,” Morris said when asked about Apple's music streaming service.
While it has been widely expected that Apple would be announcing its music streaming service, Morris is a close friend with Jimmy Iovine, who joined Beats when Apple acquired the company last year.
Morris did not reveal any specific details about Apple's music streaming service, but we have heard rumors of a $10/month price point, a three month free trial, exclusive artists, and a YouTube-like sharing platform. Morris was enthusiastic about Apple Music's launch, saying he expects it to be a "tipping point" for music streaming.
“What does Apple bring to this?” Morris said. “Well, they’ve got $178 billion dollars in the bank. And they have 800 million credit cards in iTunes. Spotify has never really advertised because it’s never been profitable. My guess is that Apple will promote this like crazy and I think that will have a halo effect on the streaming business.
Apple Music's launch will likely coincide with iOS 8.4, which is reportedly scheduled for a late June release. Alongside a revamped music service, Apple is expected to reveal iOS 9 and OS X 10.11.
