Apple Watch Sales Down 90% From Launch? [Chart]

Posted July 7, 2015 at 6:34pm by iClarified
Sales of the Apple Watch have reportedly dropped by 90% since opening week, according to analysis provided to Marketwatch.

Apple has been selling fewer than 20,000 watches a day in the U.S. since the initial surge in April, and on some days fewer than 10,000, according to data from Palo Alto, Calif.-based Slice Intelligence. That is a sharp decline from the week of the April 10 launch, when Apple sold about 1.5 million watches, or an average of about 200,000 a day, Slice estimates.

About two thirds of watches sold thus far have been the lower-priced Sport model. So far, fewer than 2000 gold Apple Watch Edition units have been sold in the United States, says Slice.

Apple has yet to reveal how the Apple Watch has been selling but perhaps we'll get some data during Apple's FY15 Third Quarter Results conference call on Tuesday, July 21st.

Seems good to me.. In perspective they sold more in a day than all the android watches! It's a low volume product..

Ofcourse sales are down / very high first week(s), many people who not living in release countries order by frends or familie or business contacts to ship abroad (to sell at higher price) First day (24 april) in the netherland / belgium 300€ up to 600€ premium had to be paid to get one (due to shortage) which increases sales in beginning, nowadays stocks are available near retail prices. Compaired to other smartwatches apple made some higher-quality (material) watches i think, if you buy rolex kind of watches, it only tells time (maybe date), so compairing prices, apple opened new segment for (new) clients. Happy owner of stainless steel42mm

It's pricy for what it's worth and not if you can't effort it or not. You missed the point of WHY people saying it's overpriced

The fact that it has no GPS unless you have your phone with you is a deal breaker for us. Probably would own 2 instead of none!

The watch can at least know when to alert you when walking a certain way to getting where you have to go without the phone. Hopefully future watch OS versions can allow it or if the watch isn't built like it yet.

My apple watch has helped me and now Icant live without it. I can't tell you how much the HealthKit stuff has helped me burn calories and from the foods I started eating. I couldn't be any more proud with it.

Wait, 15k per day times 365 is 5,475,000 units per year, a number I'm sure they'd be happy with. So sounds like sales are good.

The 4s is still useable to this day, plus Apple updating very old products for iOS 9 will make it easier to support so...

Maybe it's because most are waiting for the 2nd generation like most stated on this app, or that everyone has what they got.

Ya prices are way too high for them. Should be starting at $200 not $350.
Gabriella
Gabriella - July 8, 2015 at 1:57am
I agree, more realistic prices are $200 for the sport, $250 got the sport 42 and $100 more for the Apple watch

Comments from someone that has no clue as to the price of what a Swiss Made Quartz watch sells for. And those only give the time!
Gabriella
Gabriella - July 8, 2015 at 7:12am
It's not the income that's in question, the point of the argument is "are the watches worth the cost that Apple is asking", and the answer to you is "no". The above explanation is for the most achieved personnels

Once smart phones became prevalent, a lot of people stopped wearing watches. For me personally, I'd would never spend the kind of money they want for this, unless they developed an "armored" version. I abuse watches, and spending $50 for a g-shock basic model is a bit high considering I will probably trash it within a year.
Actually...
Actually... - July 7, 2015 at 7:37pm
Screen is made of Sapphire Crystal which can only be scratched with a diamond cutter... Body of the watch is made from Stainless steel. Pretty sturdy components. I've had one since April-24 and there's literally no damage done to it. Prices may be high, but it's justifiable when made out of the same material as high end Luxury watches. I don't think you would trash this watch unless you purposely tried too...
curtixman
curtixman - July 7, 2015 at 7:44pm
Everyone knows that two thirds of all watches sold are the cheapest (but still way overpriced) sport edition. It does not have a sapphire crystal display and is made of aluminum not stainless steel. The watch is a flop because Apple tried to maximize profits at the cost of unit sales. That was a mistake.
