iPhone 6k Concept With Slide Out Physical Keyboard [Video]

Posted November 27, 2015 at 12:26am by
Check out this iPhone 6k concept from CURVED/labs that features a slide out physical keyboard.

The condemned live longer. And Blackberry proved it - with the Priv, which seems to be a huge success for the struggling company. What's special about the Android smartphone is the slider-keyboard inside. So we at CURVED/labs asked ourselves: What if Apple made an iPhone with a keyboard inside? Et voilà: The iPhone 6k was born.

The specs:
● not an iPhone 7, but an iPhone 6s with a k(eyboard)
● identical dimensions
● backlit keyboard inside the case
● pops out when button is pushed
● looks similar to the iOS-keyboard
● Touch ID integrated in glass front
● keyboard available in black and white

Apple's tagline for this phone would be: "Forget banding, this will flip with banding". Also, the creativity is beyond imagination. The backside of the top part of the Blackberry and area near home button of the iPhone give an impression that phones are already grade 'C' refurbished or used roughly.

The day this happens I will change to Android. There is no point to go backwards.

The only reason a tech company like apple would persue a design like that would be te resolve a problem with current design. Currently there is no problem with the iphone design in terms of keyboard input. I suppose there will be those who would prefer a physical keyboard, but in my opinion they are few and far between.

The keyboard has been fine the way it is for so long, the only design problem with the phone itself is the antenna lines, but the good new is that the next iPhone will get that new material to eliminate the lines while keeping them there, it's basically invisible.

So 1/3 of the space inside the phone that's currently used for batteries, will be taken up by a massive backlit keyboard? What battery life does the designer expect? 1 hour?!

My guess is the battery would be within the keyboard? I dunno, just a fun little concept.

I like it. Problem though is the if you need to type and access the sceen touch its abit too far, unless the keyboard can integrate some sort of mouse control. Also the slide up and down create a potential weak point and a place for dirt to collect. Although I kinda still like the idea.

Cool concept, but remember the essence of technology, to reduce weight and size. The keys would have flex which makes it more vulnerable to damage.

I actually own the patent for a physical keyboard connected physically to or attached in a permanent manner via integration or addon to an iPhone, and I assure you Apple was NOT interested in adding a keyboard to their device - to the contrary, they were quite strong footed when it came to making sure I never made ANY keyboard happen ;)

Yeh... Not really feeling this... And I bet Steve Job would turn in his grave if Apple ever did that... And just because it's good for blackberry doesn't necessarily mean it's good for Apple!

Physical keyboards don't compare to touchscreen keys, so what's the point with this? Who thought this would come back? It's like making the iPhone a flip phone.
