Apple Recovered $40 Million in Gold By Recycling Devices Last Year [Chart]

Posted April 15, 2016 at 8:21pm by iClarified
Apple recovered nearly $40 million in gold by recycling device last year, according the company's Environmental Responsibility Report.

Apple recovered 2204 pounds of gold, well over a ton, through take-back initiatives. Business Insider notes that at $1229.80 per troy ounce of gold, that's worth just under $40 million. Other materials recovered include Copper, Zinc, Tin, Nickel, Silver, and more.

Recently the company unveiled Liam, a robot that can disassemble iPhones.

Existing recycling techniques, like shredding, only recover a few kinds of materials and often diminish their quality. So we invented Liam, a line of robots designed to disassemble 1.2 million phones a year, sorting all their high quality components and reducing the need to mine more resources from the earth. Liam prototypes are operating in California and the Netherlands. It’s an experiment in recycling technology, and we hope this kind of thinking will inspire others in our industry.

Take a look at the video below to see Liam in action...

1) It is very responsible to recycle with Apple, while they may profit from it, the environment thanks you for not ruining it with your iPhone trash. 2) Most of the time they do pay you for the old device, whatever it may be. 3) Who the hell cares if they profit off of being environmentally responsible?! Would you rather they profit off of killing baby sea lions? 4) Even if they didn't pay you, who cares. It doesn't cost you anything and it saves the planet, and Apple makes money to develop their products, AND they don't have to mine for as much new gold (a process which is both highly dangerous for the workers and environmentally ruinous). I don't see why you find fault with this program. The end

They may have recorded a $40 million boost. The article completely fails to include the cost to recover said materials.

Well they earn 1-3 billion from reselling the good parts and 40 million from precious metals minus some millions to recover them. At the end they earn 1-3 billions :) The apple robot is fake animation to lure you to donate them 100-150$ worth of parts!! Check LIAMGATE at YouTube.
