Wistron is preparing to expand its plant in India to produce the next generation iPhone SE, reports Focus Taiwan. Sources tell the site that Apple has its sights set on the growing Indian market and hopes the new model will help the company double its market share over the next five years.

The sources said that the Taiwanese firm has prepared for adding a new iPhone SE production line in its plant located in Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka. They said that Wistron is in talks with the Karnataka government for an extra piece of land for its production expansion, hoping it will double or even triple its production capacity over the next five years.

Wistron is expected to start shipping the new iPhone SE in the first quarter of next year. It will ship to the Indian market before reaching customers in other markets. Tekz24Tekz24, an India-based tech website, says the device will look much like its predecessor and feature an A10 processor, iOS 11, a 4-4.2 inch display, 32GB and 128GB of storage, and a 1700mAh battery.

The iPhone SE will purportedly enjoy a 10% exemption in basic customs duty, helping make it more competitive in the Indian market.
