Details about how HomePod setup works have been found in the recently released iOS 11 beta by iHelpBR.

The pairing of Apple's new HomePod smart speaker (codename B238) will reportedly be similar to AirPods. When you turn on the device for the first time, iOS will ask if you want to perform the setup with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Apparently, it will not be possible to set up the HomePod with a Mac or Apple TV.

It appears as though Siri will need to be present in nearly the entire process on the HomePod.

Some internal codes suggest that at some point the wizard will spell out a code in the HomePod, which must be typed in iOS to continue pairing. The system may also require the last four digits of the device serial number, for security reasons.

You'll be able to configure more than one HomePod with your iPhone. During setup, you must confirm your Apple ID for Apple Music and iCloud sync. It seems as though you will need two-factor authentication and iCloud Keychain enabled. Another requirement for setup is reportedly a Wi-Fi network with a WPA/WPA2 password.

Users will be able to choose from a male or female voice and synchronize the device with others spread around the home.

At various times, we find references to the VoiceOver accessibility feature, interestingly, mentioning touch-sensitive buttons for playback and volume control.
