Apple to Unveil Video Service in March But It Won't Launch Until Summer or Fall [Report]

Apple is planning to unveil its upcoming video service next month; however, it won't launch until summer or even fall, reports Variety.

At an event on March 25th, Apple is expected to introduce its news subscription service and its much rumored video service. The company will likely show off clips from shows that are in development, including a morning news show drama starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell.

Sources familiar with the plans say Apple’s video service will be targeted for a launch in summer or fall rather than the April timing that has been the subject of media speculation. Apple has vowed to its high-caliber producing partners to mount marketing blitzes on behalf of the shows in addition to the service itself. There’s an awareness that stars such as Aniston and Witherspoon do not want to take a back seat to promotion for the video service launch itself.

Apple also plans to offer access to third-party subscription services that will be sold as a la carte add-ons. CBS and Viacom are expected to participate; however, Netflix and Hulu are not.

Previous reports had Apple targeting an April launch for its video service. You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for more updates ahead of the event.
