Swipe up from the bottom of your display and pause slightly in the middle of the screen to bring up the multitasking viewer.

Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.

Unfortunately, this method DOES NOT work for the SiriusXM App when using Apple CarPlay. It terminates the iPhone “portion” of the app, but the SiriusXM CarPlay interface is not affected.
