Apple has released a new AirPods beta firmware for developers, bringing support for next-generation features announced at WWDC alongside iOS 27. The firmware, carrying build number 9A5292e, is available now for AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3.
During its keynote, Apple previewed new AirPods features coming with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate, including custom EQ controls and GymKit on AirPods Pro 3. AirPods are also expected to work with Siri AI, Apple's new Apple Intelligence-powered assistant, though Apple has not detailed which Siri-related changes are tied specifically to this firmware release.
Developers can opt into beta updates directly from their AirPods settings in the iPhone Settings app. Apple introduced the beta firmware toggle last year with iOS 26, making the process significantly simpler than the previous Xcode-dependent method. Once enabled, new firmware installs automatically in the background.
Apple notes that once beta firmware is installed on AirPods, it cannot be removed. The earbuds will continue running beta software until a newer non-beta firmware version is released. Developers can also enable AirPods Analytics Data to generate logs that help Apple troubleshoot issues.
