Apple is working on new health features for the Apple Watch, including continuous heart rate monitoring and revamped Health and Fitness software with wellness-focused metrics similar to platforms like Whoop and Oura, according to Mark Gurman.
A key feature under development is continuous heart rate monitoring. Current Apple Watch models periodically measure a user's heart rate throughout the day, switching to continuous tracking during workouts. Apple is developing a feature that would instead collect heart rate data throughout the day, even during everyday wear.
Apple is also revamping its fitness and health app software to present more wellness-related metrics in a style similar to Whoop and Oura. No additional details about the new metrics or how they will be presented were shared.
These features remain in development, and this fall's Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are expected to be relatively minor upgrades. However, Gurman says Apple has tested white and dark gray versions of a returning ceramic case, internally codenamed "iceman," along with new band colors and configurations.
Apple is aiming to have a major Apple Watch redesign ready next year, though the effort could slip by another year. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on X, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
