Apple Watch Series 12, Ultra 4 Enter Late Testing Ahead of Launch [Report]

Apple is currently in late-stage testing of three new smartwatches expected to debut later this year. The lineup includes the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, with the company focusing more on internal improvements than a redesigned exterior.



In a newsletter to subscribers, Mark Gurman reports that the models currently undergoing final validation include the Wi-Fi and cellular versions of the Series 12, known internally by the codenames N237 and N238. They are joined by the premium Apple Watch Ultra 4, carrying the codename N240. A new Apple Watch SE is not expected this year, following last year's introduction of the Apple Watch SE 3.


None of this year's Apple Watch models are expected to receive a major design overhaul. Instead, Apple is focusing on internal improvements, including health and fitness tracking enhancements and a long-awaited increase in processing speed. Although Apple has introduced updated S-series chips in recent years, real-world performance has remained largely unchanged since the S9 debuted in 2023.

The long-awaited non-invasive blood glucose monitor also remains in development. Apple is still working toward bringing the technology to market later this decade, continuing a project first conceived during the Steve Jobs era.

Finally, Gurman says work is also underway on a more substantial Apple Watch redesign, though that isn't expected to arrive for another year or two.
