Calif Demonstrates iPhone Duo Jailbreak on Launch Day [Video]

Security firm Calif says it has jailbroken iPhone Duo on its release day, sharing a video of app icons and widgets tumbling around the Home Screen as the phone is tilted.

The six-second clip shows the Weather and Calendar widgets rotating out of place while app icons slide away from their usual grid positions. A small animated character also appears on the screen. The team credits hacker LCFR as the inspiration for the modification.

The demonstration follows the untethered iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak shown on iPhone 18 Pro at Hexacon in Paris on October 16. In that earlier work, the researchers demonstrated a root shell and a modified device that retained its jailbroken state after restarting.

The Duo clip does not show a restart or identify the software build and vulnerabilities used. Whether this jailbreak has the same reboot persistence is not yet clear.

There is still no public jailbreak tool to download. Calif researcher Stefan Esser told Heise that the company does not plan to release a tool for end users, although it may publish a proof of concept.

Discussing the earlier iOS 27.0.1 jailbreak, Esser said the bugs had already been reported to Apple or were due to be disclosed soon. Most were already fixed in the iOS 27.2 beta.
