Apple Developing New Reachability Mode for iPhone Duo

Apple is developing a new Reachability mode for iPhone Duo to make the outer display easier to use with either hand.

The feature would move the main content to the left or right side of the outside screen, Mark Gurman reports in his latest Power On newsletter. That differs from the existing iPhone feature, which brings content lower on the display so it can be reached with a thumb.

On the Duo's 5.4-inch outer display, the navigation bar and other controls sit along the right edge. That layout prompted concerns about left-handed use after Apple unveiled the phone in September.

Gurman considers those navigation concerns overstated based on early use and reviews, while the larger inner display is often used with both hands. Separately, the first iPhone Duo reviews also identified awkward Touch ID button placement for left-handed use.

The report does not give a release date or identify which iOS update will include the new mode.
