iPhone Duo's Initial 8 Million-Unit Order Extends Into 2027 [Gurman]

Apple's initial iPhone Duo production order is for roughly 8 million phones and extends into 2027, according to Mark Gurman. It does not represent the number of foldables Apple expects to deliver before the end of 2026.

Discussing supply on the Power On podcast, Gurman said he did not know how many Duos Apple would get out the door this year. "That is an initial order that's going to take you into 2027," he said of the production figure.

Foxconn in China remains the Duo's only assembler. Production has not expanded to India, and he cited that concentration as another limit on how quickly Apple can increase output.

Earlier supplier reporting had pointed to 8 million to 10 million units in 2026. That report also described factories making only a few hundred phones a day in late August, after extra verification work pushed commercial production back by weeks. Screen flatness and hinge performance were among the areas receiving additional scrutiny.

The launch also grew much wider than originally planned. Apple had aimed for a late-November debut in just the U.S. and China, but brought the release forward by about a month and opened pre-orders in more than 70 countries and regions. That spread the limited initial inventory across many more stores and markets.

Customers saw the shortage almost immediately when ordering opened October 16. Delivery estimates slipped into January 2027 within minutes, affecting both colors and every storage capacity. Apple described demand as extraordinary and said it would continue accepting online orders while working to get devices to customers.

The first deliveries are still due October 23. The phone starts at $1,999 in the U.S. and reaches $3,199 for 2TB, with star white and night sky finishes across the range.
