Tim Cook Sells $63.8 Million in Apple Stock

Apple executive chair Tim Cook sold approximately $63.8 million worth of Apple stock on October 2, 2026, according to a Form 4 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The sale involved 191,753 shares traded at prices ranging from $330.66 to $334.50. Those transactions were made under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan Cook adopted on May 28, 2026, meaning the sale was arranged months in advance.

The transactions came one day after 374,541 restricted stock units vested as part of his compensation. Granted on October 1, 2023, the award paid out based on Apple's total shareholder return relative to other S&P 500 companies over fiscal 2024 through fiscal 2026. Apple's return over that three-year period was 90.67%.

As part of the vesting, Apple withheld 199,038 shares, valued at approximately $65.7 million, to cover tax withholding requirements. That withholding was separate from the shares Cook sold the following day.

Cook also gifted 26,325 shares on October 2, though the filing does not identify the recipient. After the reported transactions, his trust held 3,237,843 Apple shares.

The former CEO became Apple's executive chair on September 1, when John Ternus took over as chief executive. For fiscal 2027, Apple has set Cook's compensation target at approximately $47 million, comprising a $2 million salary and stock awards with a target value of $45 million.
