Apple-LG Home Accessories Could Offer Dynamic Island Proximity Controls [Leak]

LG's upcoming smart home accessories could offer a Dynamic Island shortcut to their controls when an iPhone is tapped against or brought near them, according to new findings shared by code leaker pdfu.

Called "Proximity Control," the feature would show a hint in the Dynamic Island with an "Open Controls" button. Tapping it would open the accessory's controls, while cameras and doorbells would show a camera viewer.

The interaction would also work on iPads and iPhones without a Dynamic Island, using a notification that stays visible for 30 seconds instead. Users could turn it off in the Home app after setting up the accessory.

Recognition uses an "apple-deviceid" identifier in the Matter payload stored on the accessory's NFC tag, along with a Bluetooth Low Energy broadcast for Apple Proximity Control. The Dynamic Island would also provide feedback when an iPhone starts setup after the first tap against an accessory.

The underlying feature has appeared in code since iOS 27.0, but its settings have changed. Earlier versions offered "Never," "Ask to Launch," and "Launch Automatically" options. In iOS 27.2, an on/off toggle replaces those choices, with the enabled state showing a prompt rather than opening controls automatically. Development is ongoing across beta releases, so the final behavior may change.

The findings add another iPhone integration to the LG accessories Apple reportedly helped develop. An earlier discovery described a HomeKit-exclusive NFC setup shortcut that could let an iPhone provision an accessory before it receives power. Conventional Matter pairing would remain available once the device is powered on.

Apple has announced its 'Welcome home' event for Tuesday, October 13, with a smart home hub, refreshed HomePod mini, and new Apple TV expected. The LG accessories are not expected to reach consumers for at least a few more months.
