iPhone Duo May Be Unavailable for Launch-Day Walk-In Purchases [Report]

Some Apple Store employees have been told there will likely be no iPhone Duo inventory for walk-in purchases on launch day, Friday, October 23, according to MacRumors. Staff have reportedly been instructed to discourage customers without pre-orders from visiting in the expectation of buying one.

It remains unclear how firm that guidance is or whether it applies worldwide. Apple has not publicly announced whether stores will have units available for customers who missed the initial pre-orders.

The online store directs customers to check back on Saturday, October 24, for pickup availability. That is a request to check again, not confirmation that stock will be available that day. Pickup reservations were briefly offered when pre-orders opened before the option was disabled, the report says.

The October 23 release date still applies to the first pre-orders. The warning concerns the possibility of buying a phone without an existing order, rather than a delay to the launch itself.

Delivery estimates slipped into January 2027 soon after ordering opened on October 16, affecting both finishes and every storage capacity. The company subsequently described demand as "extraordinary" and said it would continue accepting online orders.

Supply constraints predate the pre-order rush. Earlier reporting described limited launch inventory despite a major retail showcase, with Apple having considered a November sales debut before assembling enough stock to proceed. Stores were still expected to receive dedicated display fixtures and extra demo devices, particularly at flagship locations.
