Apple is again said to be preparing a new fifth generation iPad and a second generation iPad mini for release in March.
Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets says, "Our checks at CES indicate Apple will release the iPad 5 and the second-generation iPad mini this March. The iPad 5 is expected to be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4 that was released in October, while the form factor of the iPad mini should be similar to the first generation iPad mini that debuted in October."
There has been a lot of speculation of late that Apple may be moving to a semi-annual release cycle for its products which would see the iPhone and iPad receive one major and one minor update each year.

I guess Tim Cook has decided to break the habit of fans buying each new product as it's released. Now, by making minor enhancements, most users won't feel the need to upgrade immediately. Interesting strategy!

Apple's release cycles are very frequent. It might be better if they released every other year. I recently bought the iPad 4, iPad Mini, and two iPhone 5s.
