AT&T and Goal Zero Bring Solar Charging Stations to New York City

Posted June 18, 2013 at 2:40pm by iClarified
AT&T and solar kit manufacturer Goal Zero have teamed up to bring solar charging stations to New York city. Street Charge, as they call it, debuts today at Fort Green park and will be rolled out to other areas throughout the summer.

Each Street Charge unit houses six USB ports in total. For iPhone owners, both Lightning and 30-pin dock connector cables are built in. There’s a micro USB cable included for Android / Windows Phone / BlackBerry devices, and three female USB ports are also available if you’ve got your own cable handy. Wood "charging stations" (carrying AT&T branding) provide ample room for users to place their devices down on Street Charge and chat with others stopping by for a quick boost.

Street Charge will be powered 24 hours a day as Goal Zero's sun fueled battery will continuously power throughout the night. Each port produces 10 watts (Apple's iPhone 5 charger is 5W), so people can stop by for a quick 10-15 minute charge and get enough juice to get them from point A to B.

Let us know if you are in the area and have used Street Charge.

Great! Next they'll bring it to London and the places that really get sun like Las Vegas. Maybe 10 years - lol

I think this and excellent convenient idea. It will surely help those who are pretty much on the go all the time.

I got to move to New York now, too. Lots of iPhones sitting around, waiting to be stolen.
