Apple is considering launching multiple iPhone models each differentiated by software, rather than hardware capabilities, according to a Register Hardware report.
Yair Reiner, an analyst at Oppenheimer, recently met with several unnamed Apple executives who, he claimed, said: [The] iPhone is still in its early days and could gain share by: providing more functionality, lowering prices, growing geographically, or segmenting the market with different models.
Reiner told Register Hardware today that when he pressed the firm for further details the staffers said: Segmentation would focus on software.
The article goes on to suggest possible configurations of the iPhone distinguished by software such as a 'YouTube' iPhone model with video capture, editing and sharing capabilities.
I agree with Nick.
Models differentiated only by software can have their software pirated.
But, I surely will buy the better one, hehehe.
But Apple should open its selling.
It would destroy the other cell phone makers...
Yeah, besides, it would be like the many different versions there are of Windows for computers. This would kind of go against Apple's idea of having a one size fits all version. But maybe that just applies with their Mac software, not portable devices.
I think they would be stupid if they did this, because then people would purchase the lower models and use jailbreaking as a way to obtain all the other features they are missing.
let them do it, so i can buy the cheapest model and do just that : ) If I had stock in Apple I would suggest otherwise, but since I don't... Go For It Apple!
