Amazon has expanded its Kindle Colorsoft lineup, introducing a new 16GB model and the first-ever Kindle Colorsoft Kids. The company says the move comes after seeing strong demand for its color e-readers, with Prime Day sales for Kindle devices up nearly 40% year-over-year, and says customers are spending more time reading on its color devices.
The new standard Kindle Colorsoft features a 7-inch Colorsoft display with 16GB of storage and is priced at $249.99. The device offers up to eight weeks of battery life on a single charge via USB-C, an adjustable warm light for different reading conditions, and a waterproof design. Software features include the ability to highlight text in yellow, orange, blue, and pink, and a "Page Color" option that inverts the text and background for reading in the dark while preserving color in images and book covers.
Also new to the family is the Kindle Colorsoft Kids, priced at $269.99. The package includes a choice of two illustrated kid-friendly covers, a one-year subscription to the Amazon Kids+ service, and a two-year worry-free guarantee. Designed to be free of distracting apps and notifications, it includes parental controls through the Amazon Parent Dashboard for managing content and setting device bedtimes. Amazon also announced it is adding more books to the Kids+ library, including titles from the Artemis Fowl and Percy Jackson series.
The existing Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition remains in the lineup for $279.99, which adds an auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging, and increases the storage to 32GB. All new Kindle Colorsoft models are available to order starting today.
