Samsung Galaxy S5 Features 'Best Performing Smartphone Display' Ever [Report]

Posted March 31, 2014 at 3:45pm by iClarified
DisplayMate has conducted its in-depth analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S5 display and declared it the 'best performing smartphone display' they've ever tested.

Based on our extensive Lab tests and measurements, the Galaxy S5 is the Best performing Smartphone display that we have ever tested. It has a long list of new records for best Smartphone display performance including: Highest Brightness, Lowest Reflectance, Highest Color Accuracy, Infinite Contrast Ratio, Highest Contrast Rating in Ambient Light, and smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle. The Galaxy S5 has raised the bar for top display performance up by another notch – an impressive achievement for OLED technology!

The Galaxy S5 has the same 2K 1920x1080 Full HD resolution with 432 ppi as the Galaxy S4. Rather than increasing resolution with its new flagship device, Samsung concentrated on improving the Maximum Brightness, Screen Reflectance, performance in High Ambient Light, Absolute Color Accuracy, Viewing Angles, display power efficiency, and running time on battery.

With Apple widely rumored to be releasing new larger iPhones this year, the company will likely need to increase the resolution of its devices to remain competitive. Just recently, Japan Display announced the development of a 5.5-inch-wide Quad HD (WQHD) display with a resolution of 1440x2560 which might be a candidate for the iPhone.

Isn't 1920x1080 a Full HD resolution officially. The next step up I believe is 4K (3840x2160) and 8K (7680x4320). I read something about LG placing a higher definition screen for their next flagship handset. LG is getting better with better graphics, processing and using dedicated DAC on their audio output. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

Dear little ratGT :) if 2GB Ram makes it crappy compared to 3GB :) then what does that mean for your precious iPhone 5S? Less than shit or worse? Bests :)

Yes and no because their are macs and ipad sized which are bigger than phablets but only s5 does good on phones. Nowhere close to anything else. And after that rant, answer my question to answer your whining, is the 5s the best performing smartphone overall other than showing off retina? Yes or no?

Just get the bigger screen out. God it's so long. Welcome to 2012 apple. Just catch up. It's all we are asking. And get that iWatch out. Copy the gear fit and slap an apple logo and I'll buy it. The longer it takes the better I am expecting it to be.

Their you go jumping to conclusion again with the catch up rant, what are they behind if iphone has beaten everyone else all these years, plus galaxy still is not surpassing them in speed, features, nothing, but for size, it explains nothing, plus the watch they made they just rushed with no creativity whatsoever. If any products look or work exactly the same, it's copied. Period.

I'm just asking for a bigger screen and they didn't want to lose face and argue that you can hold in one hand. People want it. I don't want to jump ship to samsung. I don't care if it's the best screen. Just get going. Sheesh. The gain in phone size also means longer battery life which has been plaguing iPhones. And raise the price. Make a premium version, titanium? Steel? . I don't want the same phone as my maid. Period.

What's a premium version of a phone and why have different metal options unless it's necessary by how hard it is to scratch or whichever one works best for the way it feels, but for battery their are accessories which makes iPhone wireless charging or those mophie that give up to 80% more battery. Why increase the size just for that though? That just leaves one improvement? What about watts to fit in any sized battery it can handle if anyone wanted that to happen?

now i know you are just a troll. you will just complain at anything i say. aluminum is easy to shape and is cheap. but it's also easy to dent. titanium is hard to manufacture (eats up drill bits) but it's light and hard. i would like to see a return of stainless steel body as a compromise. i'd rather apple swing for the fences in terms of design and materials and charge a lot more for the product. everybody wants more battery life. even you do. by increasing screen size, two issues are addressed. it's a no brainer. even apple realizes a bigger screen is needed. hence the iPhone 6. they need to give what the consumer wants, not be afraid of following other companies. people thought the galaxy note was ridiculous because of the size. but it's what people wants. i welcome a two size choice with a bump. i don't care if the screen is the best. we want bigger. i don't care about developers having to rewrite apps for different resolutions. they will, they are making a ton of money off us.

"Performing display" what's this 'perform' if it just shows how clear is it, if it can't. All it does is show how clear it is. Their is no lag. Plus the only reason it's better is b/c the screen is bigger, but for me I have enough 4" to do anything on it.
