Bluelounge Launches 'Jimi' USB Port Extension for iMac

Bluelounge has launched Jimi – a USB port extension that helps users access the back USB port of their iMac from the front of their monitor. Jimi is a J-shaped extension that eliminates the need to strain to reach the USB port at the back of the iMac, but rather, brings it forward so that it’s within reach and easy to access.

“Jimi was designed to enhance the user experience with the new iMac,” said Dominic Symons, Creative Director and Founder of Bluelounge. “We work on iMacs in the studio and kept finding that we’d have to stand or turn the monitor to access the back USB – then we thought – ah ha! And Jimi was born.”

Simply plug Jimi into the USB port at the back of the iMac and extend the bottom of the “J” to snap into place along the bottom vent of the computer. Jimi is exclusively designed for the iMac Slim Aluminium Unibody model (released November 2012) or later.

It still requires 2 hands. If you don't hold the 'jimi' while plugging something in, it's going to damage the actual USB port within a month I'm guessing. Unless you don't plug things in back there very often, but then why do you need it. They could make it magnetic to the bottom of the imac then it would be semi secure (they used to use magnets to hold isights and the remotes).

Perfect! Then use a silver Sharpie © to color it to match the computer. Glad we could help this company fix the problem they created by attempting to solve a problem that someone else created. Of course, then someone will need it to have a contrasting bezel because they can't stick the usb in correctly, they'll scratch the sharpie off and break the glue AGHHHH the madness.

I use a sticky note and align pieces to the ports but make them long enough to see them from the front below in order to know where the ports are, then I use another piece of the sticky note on the side to tell how high ports are from the bottom and I find it just like that.

Was thinking the same thing too. Cool idea but some of these accessory companies just don't have the same design philosophies like apple or other companies. If this idea isn't patented someone should make a matching silver one along with one that has multiple USB ports or a USB and thunderbolt combination like someone below mentioned. That's if this company doesn't eventually come out with one like that themselves.

This does make it easier to know how the I/O is designed depending on which one it's plugged in.

That would be useful, and maybe include ones for FireWire and Thunderbolt. It would look better on a Mac with a metallic shade, not black

Useful to overheat your iMac yes. If they made a big one it would be covering up a great portion of the vent holes on the bottem.

So make it out of perforated plastic or metal. The same way the bottom vents are made.
