iPhone Upgrade to Cost an Extra $200?

iPhone Upgrade to Cost an Extra $200?

Current iPhone users might find an extra $200 tagged onto the price of the iPhone 3G S when they try to upgrade.

According to an AppleInsider report customers must have stayed with AT&T for at least a year to quality for the advertised $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) price points.

Current users who bought their iPhone 3G shortly after launch last year will have to wait till their previous date of purchase to upgrade. Otherwise, they will have to pay the $200 premium. That makes the 16GB iPhone $399 and the 32GB iPhone $499.

Users can also pay a $400 premium to get the new phone with no-contract, no-commit pricing. That would make the 16GB iPhone $599 and the 32GB iPhone $699.

Yes, you do. If you don't you have to pay the extra 200 bucks, I will have to because i bought the 3g last November and it is no where near 2 years.

Wrong, according to at&t site, the contract time required is 18 months, not 1 year.

Thats some Bull. I was the first one to get the iphone 3g in Chula Vista mall in California, and i just checked on my upgrade and im not eligible ill 7-11-09, wtF? i Checked my mom and hers is though...Cmon At&t. and im a little saddened that it seems apple almost didnt even try for this one. A hacked iphone can already do Video and sending wont be far with the 3.0 update coming out atleast till the IpOne Dev Team get there Pwn on. Really your getting a slightly faster processor so to speak, im just so dissapointed i wished there was more. If i can get the phone for the real price of 199 or 299, i will get one but i wish there was some Physical difference between this 3gs and 3g.

i got my 3g the day they came out and it says i cant upgrade until 03/12/2010. why does yours say 7-11-09? are you using att's web site or apple's web site to check when you can upgrade? if mine was 7-11-09 i would be happy!!!!!!!

i got mine about a month later and my upgrade time is 12-18-09. That sucks but until the dev team hacks it i'm not that upset since i have many of the new features anyway. On another matter. I have a friend who just bought a 3g last week not knowing that a new one was coming out. The salesmen never told her about it. Can she return the 3g for a new one since it has only been 2 weeks and she feels she got cheated by the salesguy. Apple stores are usually pretty cool about broken or defective parts so i hope they will let her change this in. This would pretty much scar her on apple for a long time if not.
