Apple Considers Using Intel Modem for 2017 iPhone?

Apple is sticking with Qualcomm to supply all the modem chips for the next generation iPhone; however, it's said to be considering other suppliers for its 2017 smartphone, industry sources tell DigiTimes.

Qualcomm is partnering with TSMC to supply 100% of the modem chips for use in the new iPhones slated for launch in September 2015, the sources said. The chips are built using TSMC's 20nm process, the sources noted.

While Intel is unlikely to obtain orders for the iPhone 6s, it could win some orders for the 2017 iPhone as Apple looks for additional suppliers.

Intel's chips are also built by TSMC using the foundry's 28nm process.

Apple is expected to unveil the next generation iPhone 6s on September 9th. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
